Deal's future comes under the spotlight for discussion on Wednesday next week at a two-hour public meeting at the newly opened Golf Road Centre.

It is being organised to update the community on progress on a study of the town and how it may develop, welcoming views from people on the work so far.

District council leader Cllr Paul Watkins said: "Deal has a distinct identity and characteristics which are a great asset to the area. It is vital that the district and our towns continue to meet the challenges of growth while retaining their unique qualities.

"The Adopted Core Strategy has identified the need to look at the potential for growth in Deal, and the community benefits that could accompany this, and this major study and model will provide an important assessment of options for growth and investment."

The meeting starts at 5.30pm.

Andy Steele, district council press officer said the district and county councils, with the support of the Environment Agency, have appointed consultants GVA to lead the study.

He added that the document focuses on the flood risk and transport issues that affect the northern part of the town and the Sholden area.

Mr Steele added: "The aim of the study is to see whether there are ways of dealing with these issues that would improve everyday life for residents and whether there would be any scope for further development."
