An amazing seven marathons in just seven working days has just been completed by Patrick Papougnot, deputy head at Northbourne Park School.

The mammoth run was finished on Friday and even he described the event as "running madness."

Mr Papougnot was determined to complete the distance to raise funds for the charity Water Aid, which kept his legs pumping when the going got tough.

He said: "Each time things were difficult during the run I could not stop thinking of these people with a bucket on their heads walking for miles in bare feet to get the basic amount of water to live until the next day.

"That gave me more energy than chocolate bars."

The deputy head teacher divided his challenge into two half marathons each day, starting at about 4.20am and running from his home in Walmer to St Margaret's, Langdon, Studdal and Northbourne.

In the evening, he went through Eastry, Woodnesborough, Sandwich and along Deal seafront.

Mr Papougnot, 46, thanked members of Deal Tri, his colleagues at work and his head teacher Edward Balfour for their support throughout the week.
