A trip to a Deal beauty salon saw one do-gooder forgo all of his head and back hair in aid of Breast Cancer Now.

Sandwich resident Philip Scudamore braved the beautician’s wax at the third Beauty and the Breast event at The Whitehouse salon in Victoria Road, last Friday.

He raised more than £250.

Alex Cameron and Ben Wakefield also stepped up to the challenge, losing their leg hair.

Mr Scudamore, who nominated himself for the challenge after an appeal in the Mercury, said: “A friend is going through breast cancer at the moment and I also lost another friend to breast cancer last year so it is a charity very dear to my heart.

“The back wax was very painful however it was worth it.”

As well as the waxing, the event included discounted products, a raffle, face painting by Crystal-Alice Morgan and a cake sale supplied by Sharon and Richard Price.

Voluntary ambassador Kerry Rubins was on hand throughout the day offering Touch Look Check advice.

She said: “We get a mixture of people through the doors every time and there is always lots of people who want to know more about one of our campaigns, for example our Breast Check Now app.

“This is a free app which shows you how to check your breasts plus keep a record of your checks.

“Mandee Castle from Deal who has had breast cancer features in the promo video of this app and has been shared extensively on social media. She delivers such a powerful message and I really encourage everyone to download it if you haven’t already done so.”

Salon owner Claire Blaszinski said: “It was a fabulous day with many people popping in to help us raise money for such a special charity.

“As official sponsors, we will be announcing our next Breast Cancer Now event for the beginning of 2017. We hope to see you all there.”
