Dover Athletic stepped up their Blue Square Bet South play-off bid with an important 2-1 victory over rivals Chelmsford City at Crabble on Tuesday night.

Whites made it one defeat in their last 12 league games thanks to goals in each half from Billy Bricknell and James Walker.

Bricknell, playing against his former club, gave Dover a deserved half-time lead with a 29th-minute left-foot strike.

Chelmsford were more threatening in the second half and they equalised on 59 minutes when Cliff Akurang headed home a penetrating cross from substitute Warren Whitely.

But Dover responded well and substitute James Walker lashed home their winner on the half volley four minutes from time.
