A 30-year-old man has been remanded in custody charged with murdering his mother on Sunday.

Gary Sturt, 30, of Clarendon Street, Dover, appeared before magistrates in Canterbury this morning accused of the murder of Annette Sturt, aged 49, at her home in Prescott Close, Guston.

He will appear at the Crown Court at Maidstone on June 6.

Police were called to the house at Prescott Close at 10.15pm on Sunday and found Mrs Sturt's body. She had been strangled.

It is believed she worked at Folkestone Job Centre.

Neighbours said they were shocked by her death, and they understood her husband Ian was staying with friends.
