A Dover school that was due for closure as the worst performing primary school in the country four years ago, has now been rated outstanding by inspectors.

White Cliffs Primary College for the Arts - formerly St Radigund’s Primary School - is part of the Dover Federation for the Arts and chief executive Chris Russell said he was "absolutely delighted" with the turnaround.

"I am so very proud of all the pupils, staff and parents, and the St Radigund’s estate has finally got the school it very much deserves," he said.

"To get to outstanding in four years from being the worst school in the country is extraordinary."

He praised the staff, pupils, parents and governors for their hard work and commitment.

"We knew the school was outstanding but there was always going to be a fight to get Ofsted inspectors to see it".

Head teacher Sue Knight Fotheringham, who is pictured (above) celebrating with the pupils, said: “It is an honour to be part of this exceptionally talented and dedicated staff team."

Another school which joined the federation, Barton Junior School, was in special measures three years ago, but has now been graded as a "good" school.

"Three years is a very short time to make the huge changes and progress that have been achieved," said Mr Russell.
