A drug dealer from Liverpool who was caught dealing cocaine and heroin in Dover town centre has been jailed for 18 months.

David Hughes, 20, of Dereham Crescent in Liverpool was found to be in possession of more than 100 wraps of class A drugs on December 20, last year.

The case was heard at Canterbury Crown Court

A wrap is a small folded piece of paper containing a powdered drug.

Hughes appeared at Canterbury Crown Court on Thursday, February 13, for sentencing after he admitted to the possession of cocaine and heroin with intent to supply at an earlier hearing.

Hughes was suspected of supplying Class A drugs in the Dover area.

He was seen getting into a black Vauxhall Corsa which officers stopped. They spoke to the two men and woman inside.

Hughes was detained and taken to Dover Police Station to be searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Police found two plastic bags hidden in his underwear, one containing 55 wraps of a white powder, the other 46 wraps of a brown controlled substance.

Dover district police commander, Chief Inspector Steve Barlow said: “I am very pleased that the court has imposed this prison sentence. It supports the work we are doing on the streets to remove those bringing misery to many lives.

“This was an excellent arrest by the town centre team who have been targeting those known to have been committing crime and have made more than 80 arrests in the three months that the officers have been working together.”
