The tourism kiosk which caused controversy when it was placed in the centre of Dover seafront has been moved - but it’s still on the promenade and not everyone is happy.

As the Mercury reported last month, the kiosk was placed right next to the Channel swim sculptures by tour operator Richard Mahoney, who had gathered a team of volunteers to man it.

The aim was to give out leaflets and information to tourists to encourage them to visit places of interest in the town. Mr Mahoney already operates the White Cliffs Boat Tours as well as mini-bus tours.

But the sight of the kiosk made many people see red, and they demanded that it should be moved.

On Tuesday, a crane and lorry were brought in to move it to the clock tower end of the promenade, near the canopy at the start of the King Charles II walk.

Dover Town Carnival chairman Michelle Sheppard, who called it a "monstrosity" and was willing to start a petition to get the kiosk moved, said it was still a problem all the time it was on the promenade. "I will keep campaigning until it is moved off," she said, describing it as "cheap and tacky".
