Deal's new-look contemporary restaurant at the end of the award-winning pier is on the verge of opening.

The environmentally-friendly structure has a timber-frame design and has been built as part of a £1.35million makeover for the landmark.

An official opening ceremony will be conducted by Admiral The Lord Boyce, Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, at a private event on Friday, November 21.

It is hoped customers can visit the restaurant for the first time in the middle of next week, depending on builders finishing the final touches to the pier.

Richard Pollard, property services manager at the district council, said: “If we can open on Wednesday then we will.

“The view from the new restaurant is a great one – fantastic!”

Mr Pollard met representatives from Barwicks, the Dover-based building company, for a site meeting with Cllr Nigel Collor from the district council and Jasin Kaplan, who will be running the restaurant.

Cllr Collor said the new building was superb and an iconic structure.

The previous Goodwins Cafe and toilet block were demolished after the council decided the old structure needed replacing.

A design competition was organised to find a new-look for the end of the pier.

Mr Kaplan said Deal and the surrounding area would be proud of the new upgraded cafe, named Jasin’s Restaurant.
