A food bank is to be set up in Dover.

Representatives from all the churches in the town have been working on the project and expect to start operating in September.

Members of Christians Together in Dover have been drawing on the experience of similar schemes in other towns, including Deal, and have received the backing of supermarkets.

Shoppers will also be invited to donate food for the project.

People will be given vouchers to obtain items from the food bank, but will only be helped for a limited period and will be given advice on how to support themselves and their families after that.

It is expected that food donated to the scheme will be kept at a central location but will be distributed at several points around the town to make it more accessible for those in need.
