Dover Athletic are through to the second round of the FA Cup after beating Corby 2-1, but police had to be called to the match to tackle trouble on the terraces.

Headers from Nathan Elder and Chris Kinnear Jnr secured victory for Dover who could be just 90 minutes away from drawing a Premier League giant.

But a spokesman for Dover Athletic Football Club said the behaviour of some of the Corby fans "ruined" the day.

In Tweets from the ground, the club said the Corby stewards were unable to control a handful of their fans. "Dover fans having to retreat after being struck on the head."

One Dover supporter is reported to have suffered a head injury just after the second goal was scored. Northamptonshire police say they are investigating the injury inside the ground and another incident that happened outside after the match had finished.

The club praised the Dover fans for their support.

The draw for the second round was made this afternoon and Dover Athletic were drawn against Milton Keynes Dons away.
