Former Gillingham midfielder Nicky Southall has signed a one-year deal with Blue Square South Dover.

Southall left Priestfield at the end of last season but has linked up again with former Gills player-manager Andy Hessenthaler at Crabble.

The 37-year-old said: "I am delighted to be joining. This is a good squad of players and we can go into the season in confident mood of doing well."

Hessenthaler added: "This is a massive signing for this football club. Nicky is not just a good, versatile player. He is also a leader on and off the field.

"His knowledge of the game and experience is going to be huge for us this season."
