New plans reveal four flats could be created above a town centre pharmacy and Post Office.

An application has been submitted to place the homes on the second and third floors of the Queen Street Pharmacy building in Deal.

The proposed homes would replace existing office space above the shop, with the scheme now awaiting a decision from Dover District Council’s (DDC) planning department.

The premises is listed on the application form as Deal Pharmacy & Post Office and the scheme has been submitted by Yapwingfoo Lld, which is listed as based at the site address.

The pharmacy and Post Office on the ground floor will carry on trading as normal.

If the flats are created, the building’s existing parking area will be kept.

No public comments have yet been submitted to the plans.

There have been a number of applications already approved for flats above business premises in the town in the last 12 months.

Last July, DDC gave planning permission for 17 flats and five new shops to replace The Original Factory Shop in Deal High Street.

Objectors complained that no new parking was being provided for the development.

But council officials believed that was acceptable because overnight spaces were available at local car parks.

In addition, the council last June approved knocking down the former Royal Leisure Centre in King Street, Deal.

That was for 16 homes and three shops.

Work on either scheme has yet start.

Deal Town Council will discuss the Queen Street application at its next planning committee meeting on June 3. It is not known when a decision will be made by DDC.
