A restaurant is fundraising for what would be Capt Sir Tom Moore's 101st birthday.

Kerry's Bakehouse & Eatery in Deal is selling cupcake for the area's Martha Trust.

It is joining a wider campaign to raise money to honour the Second World War hero who reaped millions of pounds for the NHS last year.

The Market Street restaurant and take-away is selling 100 cupcakes for £2,50 each during the initiative weekend.

It is called Captain Tom 100 and is from tomorrow (Friday) until Bank Holiday Monday.

Others can organise their own initiative based on the number 100 such s climbing 100 stairs, writing a 100-word poem or running 100 metres.

Groups have had to cancel thousands of fundraising events and lose billions of pounds in income.

Capt Moore, born on April 30, 1920, died last February 2 aged exactly 100.

Last April, during the first lockdown, he walked 100 lengths of his garden, eventually raising £32.79 million for NHS Charities Together.

Martha Trust is the East Kent Mercury's charity of the year for 2021.

It has a home in Hacklinge, supporting young people and adults with profound disabilities.
