Giant eggs at Charlton Primary School

Pupils at Charlton Primary School had to look twice when they arrived at school on Tuesday - and make sure it wasn't April 1.

Overnight, a giant nest and eggs had appeared in the school grounds, and rumour had it that a dinosaur was responsible.

Even the police arrived to seal off the area and make sure that no-one came to any harm.

Staff have taken the opportunity to turn the discovery into the focus of a week-long project to encourage the pupils in their writing.

“We are all investigating what they are and now they got there, and the children are producing a variety of writing as a result,” said year one teacher Lisa Burnap.

“We want to make writing fun and take away the fear some children have about writing. It is important to provide them with something new and give everyone the chance to get involved, be inspired and enthusiastic."

One of the parents, local scientist Tony Squibb, has also come forward to investigate the rare find.
