Grateful parents of baby with liver disease hold quiz to help The Ronald McDonald House charity in Camberwell

A charity which gave a Deal couple a home from home when their baby boy was receiving vital hospital treatment in London will benefit from a quiz night.

Polly and Ross Wooding, of Trafalgar Drive, will host the fundraiser at Deal Welfare Club at 7pm on Friday, March 11.

It will raise cash for the The Ronald McDonald House charity in Camberwell.

The couple’s one-year-old son, Hugo, was diagnosed with biliary atresia, a liver disease, when he was eight weeks old.

He was operated on in December, at King’s College Hospital, London, and received a lifesaving transplant from his father in June.

Throughout the family’s journey, they have benefited from the The Ronald McDonald House which offers a home from home to families with children in hospital.

Mrs Wooding said: “It’s somewhere to eat, sleep and rest away from the environment of the hospital.

“Luckily, one of the houses is a stone’s throw from King’s, where Hugo has spent a vast amount of time in the last year. We were able to stay at the house virtually free of charge. Without this, it would have been almost impossible for Ross or my mum to spend as much time as they did up there.”

The couple hosted a bingo night in Deal last year raising more than £7,000 for the same charity. Mrs Wooding said: “Although we’re not expecting to replicate that success, we’re still hoping to raise lots of money for the House. It has come to mean a huge amount to us so we really appreciate Deal getting behind us!”

She added: “Hugo is doing really well. There are a few things that King’s are investigating, but the important thing is that his liver is functioning really well, and he is catching up really well on his development.”

Entry will be £10 per person (on the door), with maximum teams of eight. To book your table, email pollywooding@outlook.com
