A hairdressers in Deal is collecting sanitary products to help tackle period poverty this Valentine's Day.

The Hair Gallery has teamed up with Dover smART Project to share a little love ahead of February 14.

Items such as sanitary towels and tampons can be dropped into the salon in Church Path anytime before next Thursday. Monetary donations are also welcome.

The products will then be available for free at smART's sanitary banks to help girls who are embarrassed, can't afford the items or just need help.

Dover smART Project was founded in 2013 help provide opportunities for disadvantaged children and carers.

Staff are also donating 10% of their earnings to help pay for creative activities and experiences to boost their confidence, enhance their wellbeing and raise their aspirations.

Owner Nicole Smith said: "The charity's founder Dawn Maddison became a client at The Hair Gallery and since meeting her and discovering the work they do, we wanted to give something back."

The salon also held a Christmas raffle raising more than £250 for the charity.
