Survivors of the Herald of Free Enterprise ferry tragedy, which claimed 193 lives, gathered again for a special memorial service on Sunday (March 6), in Dover.

It took place at 11am at St Mary’s Church and included relatives and friends of those who died including crew from Dover, Deal and Folkestone.

Representatives of the Belgians who helped rescue scores of the ship’s passengers also attended the annual service. St Mary’s is home to a stained glass window commemorating the tragedy.

The annual act of remembrance was moved to the church when the seafarers’ centre in Snargate Street closed.
