Road and rail services are getting back to normal after the weekend rain washed away most of the snow.

Most of the schools throughout the area have re-opened after being closed on Thursday and Friday.

Staff at the Port of Dover have been praised by chief executive Bob Goldfield for keeping the ferries and traffic moving.

"To keep such an important national asset fully functioning under such extreme conditions is a testament to the capability and skill of all those who manage and operate the port," he said.

District council meetings were postponed, and the full council meeting is now due to take place this Wednesday, December 8.

Police are warning motorists to take extra care if the wintry conditions return later this week.

Chief Inspector Andy Reeves said: "Motorists should be prepared, please consider your safety and decide if your journey is really necessary. If you do travel, make sure you have the right provisions for emergencies. If you are already at work, you should give serious consideration to getting home before conditions worsen."
