A man will appear in court today after he allegedly tried to run over an officer.

Ronald Gabriel, 46, of Church Street, Deal, has been charged with attempted grievous bodily harm with intent after the incident in the early hours of yesterday.

The constable was attending an incident in Church Street just after midnight on the morning.

It was reported that a man got into a car and then attempted to drive away from the location in the direction of the officer who was standing near to the vehicle.

It is alleged that the car almost collided with the police officer.

Mr Gabriel has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court today.
