Martin Hayes wants response from Dover Athletic players to 'naive' display

Dover manager Martin Hayes accused his side of "naivety" after they threw away two points against Maidenhead.

And Hayes, who has already made it clear he will not accept Whites’ FA Cup heroics as an excuse for players to take their eye off the ball in Blue Square Bet South, is demanding a positive response in Saturday’s game at Eastleigh.

Dover led 2-0 against Maidenhead at Crabble last week with under 10 minutes left, but drew 2-2 and Hayes (pictured) admitted: "We didn’t play with any real conviction and I thought we were lucky to be 2-0 up. But then to concede two late goals was naive to say the least."

Hayes was disappointed Monday’s league game at Havant & Waterlooville was postponed because of a frozen pitch, adding: "I would like to have played on Monday because it would have given us a quick chance to get what happened on Saturday out of our system.

"A few harsh truths were said to the players afterwards and I would like to have seen how they reacted.

"But Havant somewhat surprisingly said their pitch wasn’t fit."

Elliott Charles is likely to be missing after his hamstring injury.
