A mum from Deal who left her love rival with a permanent scar after a glass attack has spoken of her remorse and regret.

Megan Roberts, 24, of Golf Road, was found not guilty of GBH with intent but guilty of GBH at Canterbury Crown Court.

She had glassed Isabelle Brown, 19, in the face outside the Hole in the Roof pub – leaving the Deal beauty queen with a scar on her forehead.

Miss Roberts, who has a three-year-old son, said: “I am remorseful for what happened. Everyone thinks I don’t care, but it was the biggest mistake that I’ve ever made in my life. I regret it and I do feel bad for Izzy.”

The story began a year before the January 2013 incident, when Miss Roberts claims the former Miss Deal and Miss Kent had a brief affair with her boyfriend while she was seven months pregnant with their son.

When she saw her a year later on a night out, she claims Miss Brown was smirking at her, and dancing close to her on the dance floor, which she found intimidating. She said: “I decided to leave the premises. As I was leaving they followed me. I felt intimidated and lashed out.

“I had my handbag in one hand and a drink in another. I didn’t even realise that the glass had hit her. The bouncer pulled me out and it wasn’t until I got outside and saw the blood on my hand.”

Miss Roberts, who has a law degree, moved out of her flat and back in with her family with the fear of going to prison hanging over her.

Speaking last week, Miss Brown said she believed the young mum was spared jail because she has a child. She claims it might have been a different outcome if Miss Roberts was a man.

Miss Roberts said: “The judge didn’t spare me a jail sentence because I’ve got a child. I’ve never had police contact before, I’m not a usual offender. I didn’t intend to glass her.

“My life has been on hold. I want to move out and get me and my son’s life more stable.”

Miss Roberts said she has had support from friends and family, but that they have also been very disappointed in her.

The former Castle Community College pupil said: “I’m disappointed in myself.

“I’ve said throughout that I’d like her to know that I’m sorry it happened.”

The jury decided that Miss Roberts had not intended to glass her love rival and so she was given a two-year prison sentence, suspended for two years, and must carry out 200 hours of community service, as well as wearing an electronic curfew tag for four months.

She said: “It’s not like I’ve got away with it and I don’t think I should have got away with it."
