Keen interest in the £2.5m development of the former Quarterdeck has already seen six of the 14 luxury apartments sold four months from completion.
Canterbury developers Rogate has spearheaded the scheme to demolish the ugly 1973 building into an attractive housing and retail venture.
Rogate officials and building specialists Jenner held a topping out ceremony, raising a glass of fizz to the development’s success.
Building is expected to finish in July, with the homes available for occupation in August. Talks are ongoing with restaurant chains who are keen to occupy the two catering units on the bottom floors.
Contractor Jenner has managed the construction of the part timber-framed buildings. Kent sub-contractors have been enlisted too.
Managing director Martin Sandall said: “Quarterdeck has been a fantastic development to be involved with and we are pleased to have worked with Rogate to develop these high-quality homes that will help to further regenerate the area of Deal.”
The development is over two buildings. The tallest includes a plush three-bed penthouse apartment at £695,000 with balconies to the front (overlooking the pier forecourt) and to the rear.
The rest – all two-bed flats – will be split between the two buildings. They range from £199,000 to £405,000.
Rogate’s marketing description says: “The Quarterdeck will be rendered and finished in colours complementing the seafront style: pale greys, blues and off-whites while the shop fronts are finished in traditional style.
“Such classical design belies interiors which are light, spacious, durable and airy.”
Each will be fitted with high-quality kitchens, bathrooms, marine grade, powder-coated aluminium double-glazed windows and chrome door handles.
Amtico floor finishes to the kitchens and living areas and fitted carpets in the bedrooms are provided.
The Quarterdeck was built in 1973 as an entertainment centre. It was last used as a nightclub, which closed in 2007.
Planning for the development was agreed in March 2012 and the property was sold to Rogate in the autumn of 2012.
Demolition workers moved on to the site in November 2013, which Mr Sandall said was the longest part of the project.
Footings were created, blocks were laid and the timber frames erected. Block work encases the buildings and they will be rendered and painted.
