What do you get when the writer of adult pantomimes joins forces with the founder of a roving dining club?

The answer is a new wine bar, with live – often jazz influenced – music, friendly and experienced staff, and themed dining evenings with guest chefs.

It’s all happening at CinCin (pronounced chin-chin from the Italian toast) Wine Bar and Bistro in South Court, which owners Brian Short and Jonothan Bowles opened on Wednesday, May 4 .

Mr Short is renowned for writing, producing and acting in the Sgt’s Mess Pantomimes at Deal’s Astor Theatre, which he resurrected in 2013 with The Wizard Who’s Odd. The former Royal Marine and later a policeman has owned the venue for some time but has leased it out to different businessmen who ran it as an evening venue in recent years.

Mr Short was ready to take over the reins under a new name and management when he and his now business partner decided to join resources to also make a new home for Mr Bowles’ roving dining club Run Ashore.

Mr Short said: “We have given it the catch line, ‘It’s a nice place for nice people.’ It’s not aimed at kids, instead it’s for a more discerning patronage.

“People are loving CinCin. The reason why we’re doing it is because we’ve recognised there is a need for a nice place to enjoy live music away from the younger crowd.”

CinCin has been opened up, fully refurbished with a fresh look, stylish lighting, the ladies toilets have been moved making way for a stage where music will be played every Wednesday night and Sunday afternoon.

The kitchen will be opens today, serving pizzas and tapas. The roving dining club will no longer rove, and the usual monthly culinary nights will still take place. There will be themes to the nights and occasional guest chefs to liven up it up, encouraging a diverse and tasty range of cuisine.

Arguably, it is Deal’s first venue to have prosecco on tap, saving the need to buy a bottle for best value. There is also a free cheese board platter for anyone who books in advance tonight (Wednesday).

Mr Bowles added: “When starting the venture with Brian we both decided that there is a great demand for a venue in Deal which is more of a night spot aimed at the over-40s. It is open to adults of all ages of course, but people over 40 are missing a proper night spot that isn’t a pub or restaurant.

“On that basis, Brian, being an ex-Marine, is able to follow up on the music acts and for my part, already having an extensive membership of Run Ashore, we are bringing those two elements together.”

The live music programme kicks off at CinCin Wine Bar and Bistro with a Freddie Mercury tribute act on Sunday, June 11, from 6.30pm.
