A couple have opened a new Tex-Mex restaurant in the “perfect spot”, just two months after the previous cafe closed down.

Mex on The Beach has filled the space left by The Fox in Beach Street, Deal, which moved out in February after only eight months.

It is now in the hands of husband-and-wife team Tom and Karensa Miller, who previously ran the Zetland Arms in Kingsdown and The Coastguard in St Margaret’s Bay.

Mrs Miller 45, said: “We opened on April 20 and everyone said how pleased they were to see it back open.

“It took between six to eight weeks to open.

“We ran the Zetland Arms for just over 10 years but sold up last March.

“We had a great time there with great customers and staff but we decided to leave on a high and take on a new challenge.

The restaurant also includes a courtyard

“It is everything we hoped it would be.

“The walls in here before were pink and covered with loads of flowers so we have taken all that down and replaced it with decoration that is more colourful.

“It is the perfect spot and we have a courtyard garden which gets the sun in the afternoon

“We do Mexican American food like burgers, ribs, fajitas, burritos, steaks and tacos.

The Fox closed in February this year, having only opened last summer

“There is nowhere in this area that does that kind of food.

“We also do cocktails and beers on draft.

“We just want people to come in and have a good time.”

Mr and Mrs Miller left the Zetland Arms in March 2023. They also previously ran The Coastguard, having taken it on in 2016.

The Fox opened last summer, and replaced Italian Salentinos.

Owners at the time described it as a Mediterranean-style restaurant and cafe offering a “laid back atmosphere”.

It comes as two more restaurants have launched in Deal in the past year.

Japanese-inspired Blue Pelican opened in November and has already been praised by both Kentonline and food critic Grace Dent.

Acordo Lounge also opened last August in the former M&Co unit in the high street.
