The panto season gets off to an early start this year with a special one-off show this month.

Jack and the Psychedelic Beanstalk is an adaptation of the classic tale with a Sixties twist, with music from rock and pop’s golden era.

It is on at the Astor Community Theatre is in Stanhope Road, Deal, on Sunday, November 14.

It is developed by Maddie Cordes of the entertainment group Maddie4Music in collaboration with director Pam Mudge-Wood and written by Kent journalist Kevin Mudge-Wood.

The cast of youngsters, including several from Deal and Canterbury, and seasoned performers have been rehearsing since August.

Ms Cordes said: “Our aim is to produce an inclusive and relaxed performance.

"It is particularly aimed at people who might find a visit to the theatre daunting, such as those with autism, dementia, hearing impairment and other disabilities.

The show is at the Astor in Stanhope Road.

"The idea of staging the play in our local theatre was born from an online play reading group I set up in lockdown.

"We had such fun on Zoom with actors from across Kent and Essex taking part and dancing and singing along to the Sixties tunes, we had to take it to the next level and bring this show to the public, following on from performances in Kent care homes and day care centres.”

There will be music, comedy and dance, with all the expected panto ingredients, including audience participation, plus a BSL (British sign language) choir led by Ramsgate-based Inspiration Inclusive theatre company’s Zoe Hammond.

The show is on from 6pm and tickets cost £8 for adults, and £5 for children and for other concessions.

The tickets are available only from maddie4music@btinternet.com
