A set of public toilets have been permanently closed after being targeted multiple times by vandals.

The loos in Victoria Park, Deal, have been boarded up following the council's decision to close them for good.

Dover District Council (DDC) wrote on their Facebook page it has been left with no option other than to close the facilities after "excessive and continuous vandalism".

The post read: "It has become almost impossible to keep up with repairs due to the constant damage caused to the facilities by mindless vandals.

"No sooner is something fixed, it is broken again, the latest being the mechanisms from the toilet cisterns which were pulled out."

A sign on the boarded up door, surrounded by graffiti, reads: "Due to excessive and continued vandalism, these toilets are permanently closed until further notice."

Over the past six months, the vandalism has included broken windows, graffiti in all areas, vandalised toilets and flush systems, hand dryers and soap dispensers kicked off the walls, broken toilet roll holders, doors kicked off hinges, and drains deliberately blocked.

In July, a toilet was broken in the public facilities and police urged anyone with information following this, as well as two other incidents of vandalism in the area, to come forward.

The closure of these toilets comes just under two weeks after the facilities in King Street, Deal, reopened after refurbishment.

DDC posted the pictures of the newly fitted toilets on its Facebook page and wrote a message asking users of the facilities to help in keeping them clean and tidy.

The post added: "Our contractors check and clean such facilities regularly throughout the day, but if you're spending a penny in town please help us by keeping these facilities clean and tidy for everyone. Thank you!"
