The East Kent Railway Trust is calling for your vote to help it gain a £50,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund and ITV’s The People’s Millions.

The registered charity, based in Shepherdswell, needs your vote on Monday, November 24, between 9am and midnight, when the project will feature in a vote on ITV Meridian News.

East Kent Railway volunteers have spent more than 20 years restoring the mining heritage railway as a tourist attraction that runs from Shepherdswell to Eythorne.

Organisers and apprentices at East Kent Railway, a heritage line that used to transport coal across the Kent Coalfield.

Gary Cox, funding and apprentice scheme liaison officer, said the trust now plans to bring back steam locomotives to the East Kent Railway to restore the hidden gem to its former glory.

“It’s fantastic news that our project has been selected as a finalist for the public vote for The People’s Millions" - Gary Cox, East Kent Railways

He said: “It’s fantastic news that our project has been selected as a finalist for the public vote for The People’s Millions. We’ve had great support from Dover District Council in developing our bid, so we’d now like the rest of the community to get behind us and vote on November 24.”

The £50,000 People’s Millions money would be used to accommodate extra volunteers and visitors that would be generated by bringing back steam and to help the railway to continue to run and expand its training and apprentice schemes.
