An impressive £3,500 was raised for charitable care home the Martha Trust at a gala evening.

The cash boost comes from the Rotary Club of Dover, and is a welcome addition to the Hacklinge-based trust’s fundraising as it marks its 30th year.

Organised by Dover Rotary past presidents John Hunnisett and Peter Sherred and their wives, it comprised a meal and live music from Force 10 Big Band, and was enjoyed by scores of people.

Mr Sherred said: “After months of preparation and organisation, we derive great satisfaction from a successful event and the money it raises to enable the Rotary Club to benefit the wonderful work of Martha. It is most rewarding.”

Martha Trust’s fundraising and events officer Kerry Rubins said: “The donation is hugely important to Martha in its 30th anniversary year because it has enabled the trust to proceed with a very special therapy carpet, giving considerable benefits to the residents, many of whom have severe physical limitations.”

The past efforts of Mr Hunniset, Mr Sherred, their wives and supportive Rotarians mean they have raised almost £14,000 for Martha Trust in two years.

The Martha Trust has launched its Wear Blue for Martha fundraising campaign.

It is inviting schools, groups and businesses to hold Blue Days, when staff and pupils wear blue clothes in exchange for a donation.
