Four runners in the Dover district will be raising money for Martha Trust as they take part in the virtual 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday.

Participants have 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds, from midnight until 11.59pm to complete the 26.2 miles, which they can choose to run, walk or jog.

Bronwen Lafferty, 40, who had surgery eight weeks ago is taking on the challenge with best friend Tracy Masson who works for Martha - the Mercury's Charity of the Year .

Based in Hacklinge, it provides lifelong care for adults with profound physical and multiple disabilities.

She said: "I’m not planning on rushing this one however will enjoy taking part for Martha Trust, running with my best friend and running buddies.”

Dad of two Trevor Parker from Sandwich and Victoria Hendrick who works at Discovery Park are also gearing up for the event.

Ms Hendrick said: “I am so excited to be running the marathon for Martha Trust.

"It is a shame it isn’t around London however I have a great route planned and will give it my best shot."

Since 2013 when Martha Trust began to have runners in the London Marathon, a total of £ 71,570.76 has been raised.

Deputy chief executive Julie Gayler said: "After so much uncertainty around the London Marathon we were delighted that the Virtual Marathon was organised in its place.

"We would like to thank all our runners, who work so hard to train and raise vital funds for Martha.

"We would not be able to support so many vulnerable adults without their commitment and huge generosity.”
