Work is due to start on a £1million package of improvements for the Deal-Dover road.

The details, which were revealed at a meeting on Monday, have been welcomed by Lesley and Trevor Horne, whose 11-year-old daughter died in a crash on the road in May last year.

Mrs Horne, of Trinity Place, Deal, said: “Nothing will ever bring back our Samantha, but we would like to thank everyone who has supported us and helped us with the A258 road safety campaign. We feel that if one life could be saved through her death, then it would not have been in vain.”

The campaign and petition were launched after a series of fatal crashes on the road.

Mrs Horne added: “Without them our campaign would not have been a success. The meeting showed us that our voices had been listened to.”

The couple have decided to donate the money raised from the campaign towards the A258 programme of work.
