Sampson Court

Sampson Court care home looks likely to close by the end of the year, despite a big campaign in Deal to keep the complex open.

Petitions were organised, letters written to the county council and protestors led by Scottish pipers marched through the town with banners flying.

Now the county council's cabinet meeting on Monday is expected to give the go-ahead to the closure proposals.

Dave Hubble from the Friends of Sampson Court described the recommendation to shut the Mongeham Road care home as "tragic."

He said: "Is KCC to abrogate its responsibility to the elderly on the basis of this without further debate?

"Quality Care Commission rated Sampson Court as having a good relaxed and homely atmosphere, describing care workers as kind and attentive.

"The home is recognised as an important day care, residential and respite service, particularly for those with dementia."

Mr Hubble claimed statements in the report were misleading and was worried no firm proposals had been put forward about the future of the residents at Sampson Court.
