Severe delays at Dover port

P&O Ferries

Ferry services have returned to normal - after hours of delays as a result of a computer glitch.

Hundreds of families heading to France were held up after P&O's check-in system went down.

It has now been fixed and the long queue of cars has now cleared.

Dave Garrod, a milkman, was caught in the fallout from the delays.

He was not stuck in traffic because he knows all the back routes, but he said the town centre was gridlocked this morning, and traffic is queued right back to Samphire Hoe.

It's also pouring down there so people can't get out of their cars to walk around and see what's going on.

A spokesman for SeaFrance, which was also caught up in P&O's difficulties, said earlier they were doing everything they could to ease traffic.

She said: "SeaFrance would like to assure its customers that it is doing everything possible to minimise any inconvenience this incident has caused."
