Even if RSPCA inspectors are allowed into Dover’s Eastern Docks, they will not be permitted to take part in statutory checks of the vehicles, this week’s Dover Mercury can reveal. The news came as protesters staged a demonstration at the docks on Saturday demanding a ban on live animal exports.
Dozens of jellyfish have arrived in Dover Harbour – and several swimmers have been stung. Researchers said the warm weather had seen a rapid rise in jellyfish blooms around the UK.
Work can now start on making the replica Bronze Age boat seaworthy after an appeal raised more than £5,000. The boat, which had been under construction for several months, started sinking last year when it was lowered into the water at the dock in Dover.
A top trade union leader has said a new office in Dover will play a key role in fighting the battles against job cuts in the area.
The Rail, Maritime and Transport union office is being opened at Maritime House, in Snargate Street, by union president Peter Pinkney.
A special meeting of Dover Town Council is being held to decide whether a former mayor and her business partner should be allowed to run the newly refurbished toilets and shop on the seafront.
