The Holocaust is being remembered in
Deal at a three-day
exhibition about the atrocities inflicted on the Jews during the
Second World War.

On
Tuesday, the town hall played host to school pupils, MP Gwyn
Prosser, dignitaries from neighbouring towns and members of the
Jewish community who paid tribute to those who perished at the
hands of the Nazis.

Deal Mayor Cllr Bill Gardner
launched the exhibition and said: "A lot of work has gone into
getting this organised.

"It’s not only about the Holocaust
that happened in the war, but in fact, the Holocausts that are
still going on around the world."

The exhibition, called The Legacy
of Hope, ties in with Holocaust Memorial Day – an international day
to mark the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp on January 27,
1945.

Today was the 65th anniversary
of the exposure of the horrors of the Holocaust.

Artwork, evocative poetry and prose
by pupils at Castle Community College were on display.

The exhibition
culminates tomorrow in
a special service at the Holocaust Memorial Tree in St George’s
Churchyard at 3.30pm.

A special free screening of the film The Boy in
the Striped Pyjamas was held at The Astor
Theatre on Wednesday night at
7.30pm and Sir Roger Manwood’s pupil Jack Scanlon, 11, who
played the lead character, was present at the launch.

The displays can be seen at Deal Town
Hall from 10am - 5pm on Wednesday and 10am - 3pm on
Thursday.
