A public drop-in session will be held in Sandwich tomorrow to keep the local community up to date on the tidal defence scheme.

People will have the opportunity to talk to representatives from the Environment Agency at Sandwich Quay from 9am till 3pm.

Work on the scheme has now moved to the town centre where the new flood wall is being built at Sandwich Quay between the Toll Bridge and the Quay car park.

The new wall will include a seating area near the bridge and a ramp for easy access for visitors to view the river.

Later this month clearance works will start behind the Highway Marine boat storage yard in Strand Street and near the Bridge Wharf House, Ramsgate Road.

In order to raise and widen the existing earth embankment to improve the protection, the southern row of trees behind the boat storage yard will need to be removed.

When completed the £21 million flood defence scheme will reduce the risk of tidal flooding to Sandwich and Stonar Loop.

Some areas currently have a 1 in 20 chance of flooding.
