Leo and Elizabeth Boseman’s tempestuous marriage was one of violence
fuelled by drink, a court has heard.
Four times between April last year and January this year police were called to deal with rows.
Now Canterbury Crown Court has heard how the two had been drinking in April this year when another bust-up led to a serious knife attack by Mrs Boseman on her husband.
And now she has been sent to prison for 28 months after admitting unlawfully wounding him at their home in Freeman’s Way in Deal.
Kerry Waite, defending Mrs Boseman, told Canterbury Crown Court: "This couple are ill-matched and ill-suited as a result of their respective physical and mental health problems and their propensity to drink alcohol.
"Then they have a difficulty in controlling their anger in heated situations. She has now come to the conclusion this relationship is fated and she has given serious thought to her future."
Prosecutor Ms Lesley Bates said that Mr Boseman revealed to police "a history of violence usually on him after she had been drinking."
She said the couple had been drinking in the town when they returned home and another argument flared up.
Mrs Boseman would later claim her husband had started the fight by hitting her and pushing her to the ground.
“It is plain to me that you have a serious and unresolved alcohol problem and mental health difficulties, which has made your relationship highly volatile" - Judge Adele Williams
She had initially defended herself, grabbing a knife – but had gone too far by stabbing and biting him in his chest and arm.
The prosecutor revealed how Mrs Boseman has numerous previous convictions for assaults – including two on police officers - and drunken behaviour going back seven years..
"On four previous occasions in April, July, November 2012 and January 2013 police have been called to deal with domestic incidents between Lee and Elizabeth.
"There is clearly a history of violent incidents between the two", she added.
Mr Boseman later wrote to the court saying he didn’t support the prosecution of his wife and that the latest incident “was all his fault and he misses his wife".
Judge Adele Williams told her: “It is plain to me that you have a serious and unresolved alcohol problem and with mental health difficulties, which has made your relationship highly volatile.
"You still pose a threat of re-offending... especially to your husband."
