Two sex attackers are still at large after a woman in her 20s was grabbed and assaulted in an alleyway.

Workers say they are now walking home in groups to keep safe as the hunt goes on for the pair.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the attack, which took place in a walkway between Cannon Street and New Street in Dover.

After the assault the two men, both described as white and speaking English, made off towards the Roman Painted House.

No arrests had been made so far.

The incident took place last Thursday, February 23, between 6pm and 6.30pm.

It has prompted increased safety measures from local cafe la Salle Verte where staff will now leave for home at the end of the day in a group.

After hearing of the attack, manager Sandra Malho said: “I have said to staff we should leave together.

“I am very concerned about this and Dover seems to be getting more dangerous.

“Even in the middle of the day people are shouting outside and there are no police around. We know there are people around drinking and using drugs.”

The area is a known antisocial behaviour hotspot and the district council’s dedicated team has in previous years targeted the area near Market Street by declaring it a zero-alcohol area.

The alleyway is between branches of the Santander bank and the F. Hinds jewellers.

A spokesman for F. Hinds at Dover said: “This is concerning but we are already quite security conscious.

“There is CCTV and that is a bonus, but it is the same old thing. We need more police and there aren’t enough because of cuts.”

DC Kirstine Davies said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at that time and who may have seen the incident, or events leading up to it. It is a busy time of day when many people would have been on their way home."

Anyone with information should call police on 01843 222289 quoting reference ZY/007329/17, or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
