One hundred colourful balloons were released into the sky to celebrate the 100th birthday of a popular great-grandmother.
Yvonne Goede’s family threw the centenarian a party to remember at a house in Beach Street during a special weekend of celebrations.
Her daughter, Maggie Tait, who lives in Sussex, said her mother, of High Street, Deal, was overwhelmed.
“She said ‘all this for me?’ – it was quite hard for her to take in,” she said.
“She’s very healthy, she’ll go on for a while yet.
“Everyone knows her in Deal, she’s a character. The church made her a cake and sang Happy Birthday after a service. She’s been overwhelmed by it all.”
Family members joined together at the house for the party before wheeling Yvonne, a mother-of-six, across the road to release the balloons.
“It was fantastic,” said Maggie.
“Not all the family could make it as a lot of them are in Holland or spread out in other places, but there were about 30 or 40 of us in this lovely holiday home.”
