One man’s trash became another man’s treasure at Deal Braderie.
More than a hundred stalls were pitched on the High Street with holders selling their pre-loved goods.
There was an eclectic mixture of vintage with contemporary, food and flowers, and independent shops took advantage of the shopping bonanza, and opened their doors for an extra trading day.
Among the knick-knacks and bargains on sale, St George’s church took its worship outside and invited passers-by to join in.
Tom Keenan led the music with the help of one of St George’s worship bands, and Youth, Children and Families’ Minister Bruce Watson welcomed everyone and congratulated long-standing member Dixie Dean on his 97th birthday.
The Rev Chris Spencer involved everyone including the children in a talk on Jesus’ teaching on how not to worry, and the Rev Shiela Porter led the congregation in prayer.
Afterwards, browsers were welcomed into the church garden for a free hot drink and a doughnut or pastry - of which 900 were consumed!
They saw a steady stream of visitors, many stopped to sit and have a chat in true Braderie fashion.
There was free face-painting for children and some balloons to take home as part of St George’s contribution to the festive atmosphere in the town.
Events coordinator Lynn Watson said “We love being part of the Braderie, taking our usual Sunday worship outside, and meeting everyone browsing the stalls.
“We’ve bought a few extra pastries and doughnuts this year as we always seem to get a really warm response.
“If anyone enjoyed our outdoor worship – you can find us inside next week, for an informal worship service for all ages at 10.30am. We’d love to see you!”
