A beauty salon in Deal is open as usual today despite having three of its windows smashed last night.
Beautique, in Middle Street, opposite Deal Library, was targeted by vandals between 8pm yesterday and 8am today (Friday).
It is understood those responsible used three bricks to cause the damage.
Jade Pritchard, who has owned the salon along with her sister, Chloe, since September this year received a call with the news around 8am.
She said: “I just got in the car and came down here. It was an absolute mess. I didn’t know where to begin.”
Shattered glass covered the inside and outside of the shop, a mirror was smashed, glass shelves had collapsed and an air conditioning unit had broken after glass has fallen into it.
It has taken Jade and her team more than four hours to clear up.
She said: “Whoever did it is just selfish.
“They’re reinforced windows. They knew that it was hard glass to smash. I don’t believe it could be some little kid with that force.”
The holes in the windows have been temporarily covered with posters and will be boarded up this afternoon. The cost of repairs is thought to be around £1,500 which the owners hope they can claim on their insurance.
Jade has had to cancel some of her appointments but was determined to fit some in.
She said: “I was fully booked until 6pm but have had to cancel the ones before 3pm.
“I’m upset. We’ve worked hard for this and it’s embarrassing having to ring your clients and say the shop has been vandalised. I feel like I’m letting them down.”
The salon has received a wave of support on social media site Facebook.
Shaz Hester said: “This is a disgusting act of vandalism. I hope they find those responsible!”
Margaret Grand said: “I just cannot believe what is happening in Deal. Such a beautiful place. I hope these mindless idiots are caught.”
Wendy Atkins said: “That is awful. I’m so sorry you have to go through this. I hope they find the people responsible and your insurance company settles the bill for you.”
Jade has thanked everybody who has helped and shown their support including Claire Cousin of Ubeauty Hair Boutique who offered her the use of her salon if needed.
A spokesman said: “Kent Police is investigating an incident of criminal damage at a property in Middle Street, Deal.
“It was reported to officers on Friday, November 27. The owner had been informed the windows had been smashed overnight. Inquiries are on-going.”
Anybody with any information is asked to call 101.
The salon offers hair, nail and beauty treatments. To book an appointment call 01304 379638.
