Former Sandwich Technology pupil Winston Showan has been dubbed the early favourite to win this year’s Big Brother.
Mr Showan, who has lived in Deal and St Margaret’s, entered the famous house last Thursday. He attended the secondary school in Sandwich from 1998 until 2003.
The 27-year-old has been given odds of 5-1 with bookmakers Coral and appears to be popular inside the house - getting only two votes in the first week’s nominations.
Friend Maxine Cotton, 28, who used to live with Mr Showan in St Margaret’s said: “I lived with him and Chris [a close friend of Winston’s] over a year ago now. They are typical lads to live with, love partying, girls and the gym.
“I think he could win it, he’s already got a big fan base and a large circle of friends supporting him and he’s a nice guy, so why not?
“I think he’ll be well liked by the public... especially the ladies!”
Friends on Facebook are also rooting for him to win the fifteenth series of the show.
Robin Rookie said: “I hope he smashes it.” Friend Michael Clayson agreed: “Yeah same here, I reckon he will win.”
He has made appearances on other television shows including Girlfriends, The Only Way is Essex and EastEnders.
“I think he’ll be well liked by the public... especially the ladies!”
On his Channel 5 profile Mr Showan describes himself as “a real lad’s lad and spends all his money on the lads and chasing the ladies,” and has already been seen getting friendly with housemate Tamara.
He’s strong-minded and determined. He told Big Brother: “I always speak my mind”.
Winston classes himself as a local superman as he’s very thoughtful and kind and is always there to help others.
He said his friends would describe him as “a bit dippy, unintentionally hilarious, loyal and a party man who’s always up for fun.”
He would hate any tasks involving horses as he’s petrified of them and he also hates insects.
He truly believes he’d make the best housemate ever. He said: “I’m charming, fun, charismatic, the list goes on.”
Big Brother airs every night on Channel 5 until August.
