The wonders of nature were encapsulated by pupils from The Downs Primary School in a poster competition to promote Walmer in Bloom.

The contest marks the launch of the annual drive to encourage residents to display flowers in their front gardens.

The campaign is sponsored by Walmer Parish Council, whose chairman,Cllr Pat Heath said: “We would like to thank the pupils and staff of The Downs School for their time, energy and enthusiasm in supporting the school poster competition, which is a key aspect of the Walmer in Bloom Campaign.”

A wide variety of designs impressed judges.

There were scenes of boats on rivers, monumental castles and finely detailed floral arrangements utilising abstract patterning.

Tegan Perry of The Downs School was this year’s winner of the Competition with her bold design of a single bouquet of hand tied multi-coloured blooms.

Her winning image will appear on the publicity leaflets and posters which will be distributed to local businesses and organisations this month.

Cllr Mrs Sue Le Chevalier, Chairman of the Walmer in Bloom Committee, attended a presentation event at The Downs School and awarded winners certificates and art materials. Certificates for commended entries were awarded. Everyone who took part will be awarded a certificates of achievement.

Cllr Le Chevalier said: “We are excited again, for securing our highly respected external judge who is a Royal Horticultural Society Judge and we hope that residents, businesses and other organisations will make an extra special effort to support this year’s Walmer in Bloom Local Garden Competition by nominating their favourite front garden.”
