Is the nation ready for a body popping mum-of-two from Deal?
Well it needs to be, as this weekend Shaz Paz will be appearing on television screens across the country.
After five years of trying to make it to the audition stage of ITV’s The X Factor the 43-year-old carer finally has.
And to have it aired on television, she says, will be the icing on top of the cake.
Shaz, who's real name is Sharon Stewart née Parry, received confirmation that her audition will be shown on tomorrow’s programme, today.
Her reaction was: “Arghh, I’m so excited!”
Shaz, who went to Warden House Primary and Deal Secondary School, sang in Sholden Church Choir until the age of 18 but it is for her dancing that she is best known.
She says Breakdance - The Movie is responsible for her love on body popping.
Despite still recovering from pneumonia, which nearly killed her earlier in the year, she can’t help but bust a move whenever she can. She does it while cooking, in the street and even when marshalling at events.
She said: “Shaz Paz is my wall, my defence, the normal every day Sharon is the boring house wife who cares for her husband.
“I just go into a whole different world where I’ve got no worries.”
She even shared a few of her moves when marshalling at the Olympic Torch Relay in Dover in 2012.
She said: “I didn’t know the crowd were watching, I just got carried away and kept on doing it.
“It just makes you feel good, especially if people are watching and when the crowd gets involved.”
To make it to the audition stage of the hit reality show Shaz had to make an impression at an initial audition held at Westwood Cross in Thanet.
Shaz said: “I heard they were doing mobile auditions this year at Westwood Cross. The night before I decided to go. The audition did go well but I honestly didn’t expect to hear from them.”
She received an email saying she had been successful on July 1 and was invited to Manchester on July 8.
Shaz travelled alone on a coach for nine hours to make it there. She stayed in a Travelodge in the city for three nights and described the whole experience as unreal.
She said: “It still hasn’t sunk in. It’s one of those things that you think will never happen and now that it has, it still doesn’t feel real.”
Shaz sings Hideaway by Kiesza and gets a mixed reaction from the judges but certainly not from the audience. Look out for her Thumbs Up Move and the Shaz Paz Slide!
Tune in to The X Factor at 7.45pm on ITV and Xtra Factor at 9pm on ITV2, tomorrow (Sunday).
