An author has donated the proceeds of his latest book to help teenager cancer sufferer Kelly Turner.
Ted Roche, of Archery Square in Walmer, has given £400 to the fund in the hope he can help the 17-year-old reach her £1 million goal.
Kelly, from Dover, has a rare form of cancer called desmoplastic small round cell tumours which affects only 30 teenagers a year worldwide.
She needs the money for full treatment, including surgery and immunotherapy, at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
Mr Roche says money made from his book, called Nuffink in Particular, will continue to go to the brave teen.
“It is a book of poems and sketches and it was published about nine months ago,” he said.
“It was done in two parts. This was part two and I originally wrote it for Cancer Research but I was looking through the Mercury and read about Kelly Turner."
He added: “I thought that would be a better destination. She’s a young girl of 17 – I’m 73 and I’m in the last lap of life. Somebody at the age of 16 is only at the start. She should have a life.
“This is a more personal and immediate place for the money to go, rather than going to some sort of large organisation where we don’t know how much will be going on admin.
“If I raise any more money I will donate that to her too. It’s going to be an ongoing thing.”
Nuffink in Particular is available to buy on Amazon.
