Andy Hessenthaler is considering an overhaul of Dover’s attractive style of play.

The Whites have won many admirers for their free-flowing style through back-to-back promotions, but after Tuesday’s 3-2 loss at home to Basingstoke – a second in three league games – Hessenthaler could scrap it in a bid to grind out results.

He said: "We were not beaten by the better team, we beat ourselves.

"It is alarming. We pride ourselves on our defence but we have already conceded 16 goals this season. It is unacceptable."

He added: "Maybe we need to stop playing the free-flowing football which we have for the past couple of years and grind out some results."

On Saturday they host league rivals Eastleigh in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round.

Hessenthaler faces a selection crisis, however, with Sammy Moore a doubt (foot) while Olly Schulz and Jake Leberl sustained calf strains on Tuesday. Frannie Collin remains sidelined

Hessenthaler is also looking to bring in a goalkeeper with Lee Hook out of form and deputy John Whitehouse injured.
