Three contrasting takes on the British seaside will come together at an art exhibition in Deal.
Sirens and Guns is on show at Taylor-Jones & Son in the High Street until Sunday, February 24.
It features work by Rachael Talibart, Leigh Mulley and Loren Beven.
Sonja Taylor-Jones, who runs the boutique high street shop and gallery with her husband, BBC Countryfile and wildlife camera man, Richard Taylor-Jones, said: “The exhibition explores the immense coastal power of nature and how we have perceived and shaped it over the years.”
Photographer Rachael Talibart was shortlisted for the 2018 Sony World Photography Award and has since received worldwide acclaim. Her photographs of waves and sirens transcend time and place, showing the terrifying but beautiful power of the sea.
The display includes one of the last remaining large format prints of Poseidon Rising, her most celebrated image.
Artist Leigh Mulley came to prominence when her paintings were selected to be part of Banksy’s Dismaland in Weston Super Mare.
She captures the spirit and language of classic British coastal living using bold colour and arresting detail to reveal beauty in the deteriorating amusement arcades, funfairs and souvenir shops.
She captures water pistols, ice cream vans and rubber dinghies in stunning photorealistic detail. Although appearing playful, her compositions also provide a commentary on notions of social class and cultural influence. She has created a brand new original water pistol painting especially for this exhibition.
Loren Beven is currently using the cartoon figure of Popeye in a series that casts him in the great British seaside, resonating with current themes in politics.
