A specialist nurse and running club member is putting her fitness to the challenge this month at the London Marathon.
Bronwen Lafferty, 36, of William Pitt Avenue in Deal, is aiming to raise £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and its nurses that work around the clock for terminally ill patients.
It is a cause close to Bronwen’s heart as she lost her mother, Celia Green, to cancer when she was just 43.
Bronwen was 14 at the time.
She said: “The nurses were brilliant for her and I wanted to do it for them.
“It just makes you think, it doesn’t matter what lifestyle you have.
“Macmillan ensures that no one faces cancer alone, whether through direct nursing care, support for family, financial advice or just simply by being there.
“Sadly, too many families are touched by this horrible disease, so their services are always needed.”
She has so far raised more than £1,600, much of it through £1 donations.
Bronwen, who grew up in Norfolk, has already completed 20 and 22-mile runs in preparation for the endurance event on Sunday, April 24.
It has long been an ambition of hers to complete the marathon, and Bronwen will be going up to London with a host of friends she has met since moving to Deal two years ago from London.
Bronwen is part of Rashbrook Runners, led by Chantele Rashbrook, an avid breast-cancer fundraiser.
The female-only running team aims to meet their pal at the finish line, and to celebrate with a few beverages on the train home.
