The Strand in Walmer has reopened following a morning of traffic disruption due to a car fire.

Firefighters attended the incident involving a taxi at 7.10am, requesting the assistance of police for traffic control and Highways to clear fuel and oil from the road.

Until around 11.20am, cars were redirected onto Marine Road.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "The vehicle was 50% destroyed by the fire.

"Firefighters remained on the scene until 8.15am."

A police spokesman said: "The road re-opened at 11.23am."
