A second headless animal has been found in the district today causing concern to pet owners.

An elderly woman - who isn't being named - identified the decapitated creature, thought to be a rabbit, on her driveway as she left her Deal home to walk her dog around 7am this morning.

It follows on from a similar incident in Minerva Avenue in Dover yesterday - although it is not known whether the two are linked.

The woman said: "It was awful. It was dripping blood on my drive.

"It looks like some nutter has killed this pet by cutting its head off.

"I thought it was a cat but when I got up to it, it looked more like a rabbit.

"It's got a short, stubby tail."

The body was found on the woman's driveway in front of her garage. She thinks somebody has walked about 20ft up her drive and placed it there.

She said: "It's not wild. It's too big to be wild.

"I've covered it with a black sack and police are going to take it away."

She would like pet owners to be aware and is advising them to lock their pets away at night.

She said: "Put them away in your shed at night.

"It must be awful to go out and find your pet gone.

"I'm worried about my dog. I won't let her go out in the garden on her own now."

A police spokesman said: "It is not yet known how the animal came to sustain the injury but no criminal offences have been reported.

"Officers have made an appointment to visit the resident who reported the incident in order to obtain further details."

The incident occurred in the Court Road area of Deal.
